HPV Vaccination & Cervical Cancer Prevention

Cervical Cancer Vaccine | Safe for Girls & Boys | Protection from Warts

The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine is one of the most important preventive measures for women’s health.
It protects against the virus strains that cause cervical cancer, genital warts, and other HPV-related infections.

At Sri Rama Multi Speciality Hospital, Jammikunta, HPV vaccination is provided in a safe, hygienic environment with complete guidance from our female gynecologists.

What is the HPV Vaccine?

The HPV vaccine is an immunization shot that protects against the strains of the Human Papillomavirus responsible for:

  • Cervical Cancer: Cancer of the cervix (the lower part of the uterus).

  • Genital Warts: Non-cancerous skin growths.

  • Other Cancers: Cancers of the vagina, anus, and throat.

Vaccination is Prevention: The vaccine works by triggering the body to produce antibodies, which protect against future infection from the virus.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

The vaccine is most effective when administered before exposure to the virus.

  • Ideal Age: Recommended for Girls and Boys starting from ages 9 to 14.

  • Catch-Up Age: The vaccine can still be given to young women up to age 26 who haven’t been vaccinated.

  • Older Women: Women aged 27 to 45 should discuss the benefits with our gynecologists.

Vaccination Schedule

The required number of doses depends on the age when the first shot is given:

  • Ages 9–14: Usually requires two doses (given 6–12 months apart).

  • Ages 15 and above: Usually requires three doses over a 6-month period.

Safety & Side Effects

The HPV vaccine is extremely safe. Side effects are usually mild and temporary:

  • Soreness, swelling, or redness at the injection site.

  • Mild fever or headache.

Important: The HPV vaccine does not treat existing HPV infection or cancer; it only prevents future infections.
